My 20 Minute LinkedIn Workout
And engaging with 1,000+ new connections this year
My 20/10/5 LinkedIn outreach framework
Our firm’s BD strategy has been heavily referral based.
But 2024 was a different year. 🫤
I started dabbling in outbound BD, but it’s been manual and time consuming.
So in 2025 I am prioritizing automating and simplifying my BD!
In that vein, I discovered the LinkedIn 20/10/5 daily outreach strategy.
Heard of it? 🙋🏻♂️
Here’s the concept:
20 new LinkedIn connections to prospects / day 👈🏻
10 engagements (likes + comments) with prospects / day 🙌🏻
5 custom messages to prospects / day 👋🏻
The magic is that it adds up over time.
Over a week: 100 / 50 / 25 🧱
Over a month: 400 / 200 / 50 🏠
Over a year: 5,200 / 2,600 / 1,300 🏰
It reminds me of this quote:
“Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in 10 years”
Consistency matters in recruiting, so this past week I put it into practice. 🎹
With the goal of automating most of the process.
Full Guide & Highlights
I break it down step by step in this complete Recruiter & Chief Guide.
What you can expect to learn:
How to automate 20 new connections a day
Create a prospect list using LinkedIn Sales Navigator. 🎯
Import the list into Dripify.
Create a new Dipify campaign with a sequence that connects and sends each new connection a message (with alternative actions to take if the connection isn’t accepted). 😎
My message script and why it works.
Time investment:
< 2 hours to set and up and will take you < 1 hour to emulate.
It will run on auto-pilot daily with the leads you provide. 🏃🏻♂️➡️
Cost: About $200/month after the free trial periods (and now I have two powerful accounts I can use for other campaigns).
How to engage with 10 prospects a day
Create a custom feed of prospects’ posts on LinkedIn (using the native search features). 🪄
Track these custom feeds.
Create a repeatable process that takes < 10 minutes / day to engage with 10 of your prospects’ posts and comments. ♻️
Time investment:
< 10 minutes to set up a custom feed.
< 10 minutes a day to check and engage with prospects’ posts.
Cost: $0
How to send custom messages to 5 prospects a day
Identify 5 key prospects to message. ✍🏻
My logic and process for how I select my top prospects
Send prospects messages that are highly customized, value-added, and show curiosity about their position, company and/or recent posts on LinkedIn.
Stay organized to create a repeatable process. 🤓
Time investment:
< 10 minutes to set up
< 10 minutes a day to send 5 custom messages
Cost: $0
That’s it!
This is now my 20 minute daily workout: 🏋️
< 10 min to engage with 10 prospects’ posts
< 10 min to send 5 custom messages
It still has that new car smell. 🚗
I’ll report back to let you know how it’s working.
AND I’d love to learn from you - how do you organize and automate your BD prospecting?
P.S. - If the $200 price tag is a barrier to adopting this, here’s an idea: Do you know someone with a Sales Navigator account? Ask them for help exporting the list - you can get away with a pulling a list every 1-2 months and don’t need your own account. Dripify basic plan will run you only $39/month.
Articles I Enjoyed: Three great perspectives
I read hundreds of social posts a week, here are three recent ones I’ve found useful:
My take-aways:
Set up your sales process so that anyone can follow your recipe. Easier to follow + you can outsource it! ♻️
The LinkedIn 20/10/5 playbook, of course!
My take-aways:
Nurturing the top 1% talent in your niche with a message like “I'm not reaching out about a role” shows your proactivity & expertise in your niche. 😎
“Internal TA isn't doing this. They rarely have the resources or expertise to do it.”
My take-aways:
LinkedIn Recruiter changed their search filters last year which allows for more nuanced sourcing of both current title / role / location and prior
title / role / location. 🏹Use these filters strategically if you’re looking to find very specific career trajectories.
Mindful Minute: Cold showers 🚿
It’s not spring yet, but this past week showed signs that we’re not too far off.
And in celebration, I took my first cold shower in awhile.
I started taking cold showers and plunges last summer. 🛁
(Yeah, yeah, I followed the buzz).
Initially, I filled my bathtub with huge ice cubes (using my bread dough tubs) and I sat in 45 degree water for as long as 10 minutes. 🥶
…And found that the whole plunge thing was too much work.
But cold showers?
Well, those were simple. 🫰🏻
And much easier to turn into a habit! 👈🏻
The research shows that even just 10 minutes per week is sufficient:
“The optimal amount of cold exposure is about 10 minutes per week. After that, returns diminish. So if you divide that by 7 days a week, you only need to shower cold for 1-2 minutes per day to get the optimal benefits.”
The benefits of cold showers (and cold exposure in general):
Reduced Stress & Elevated Mood 🥰
Boosted Immune System 🥕
Increased Alertness & Energy 🙋🏻♂️
Improved Circulation 🩸
Enhanced Willpower & Mental Resilience 🧠
I’ve experienced a lot of these benefits and started to really enjoy the process.
And it’s an immediate high (which is nice feedback to look forward to!)
Are cold showers or plunges a part of your routine?
I’d love to hear! 💚
