Hi Friends 👋

Over the last 10+ years, I’ve built a library of “snippets” that I use every day to save myself 1-2 hours a week.

These are short pieces of text that are my staples of communication with candidates, clients and anyone else I’m working with.

I use TextExpander to connect these snippets to keyboard shortcuts.

You can find other similar tools but I’ve always loved TextExpander for it’s ease of use and expandability.

Below are the 25+ snippets I use and rely on the most.

Some snippets are customized to specific roles and others are not role specific.

It’s your call as to how custom you want to make them. I wanted to give you as much detail as possible.

I’ve organized this guide into 3 sections:

1) Candidate Communications

2) Client Communications

3) Everyday Tasks

1) Candidate Communications

Candidate positive response for any role (mostly used on InMails):

Keyboard shortcut:

INFXXX (where XXX is the job ID I use for all snippets for that job)

Snippet:

Thanks for your note and interest. The following is the full spec for the position: [insert job description or spec page]

If you're interested in learning more, can you please schedule us for a time to chat by phone: [insert Calendly link]

Thanks and I'm looking forward to connecting further!

-Tal

Candidate negative interest response (InMail):

Keyboard shortcut:

TI (not job specific)

Snippet:

Thank you for your note. It would be great to stay in touch.

I'll send you a connect request - I start all new searches with my 1st degree connections.

If you think of anyone who might want to hear about this opportunity, I'd love to know.

Thanks and all the best,

-Tal

Candidate 1st follow-up after positive response (but no follow-up):

Keyboard shortcut:

CURXXX (XXX = job ID)

Snippet:

Curious if you've had a chance to look at the full job spec for the [Insert job] opportunity at [insert company]. Do you have any questions?

If you're interested in learning more, can you please schedule us for a time to chat: [insert Calendly link]

Best,

Tal

Candidate 2nd and final follow-up after positive response (but no follow-up):

Keyboard shortcut:

BUGXXX (XXX = job ID)

Snippet:

I don't want to bug you or waste your time -- if you do want to chat about this [insert job] opportunity at [insert company], feel free to reach out.

Otherwise, I hope to keep in touch and please let me know if I can be a resource to you in the future.

Best,

Tal

Generic follow-up to unresponsive candidate:

Keyboard shortcut:

FUEXXX (XXX=Role ID)

Snippet:

Quick follow up with you to make sure my last email didn’t end up in your spam filter.  Any interest in chatting further about the [insert job] opportunity?

If yes, you can schedule a time on my calendar that works for you here:  [insert Calendly link]

Compensation summary for pay inquiries:

Keyboard shortcut:

COMXXX (XXX = job ID)

Snippet (multiple examples):

The comp range for the role is $xxxk - $xxxk base plus xx% bonus potential, equity and benefits.

Is that in-line with what you'd be looking for?

If not, would you mind sharing what comp range you’re targeting for your next role?

**

The comp range for the role includes a $xxk-$xxxk base plus a significant equity package. There might be some flexibility for a candidate that has more experience than the job spec.

Is that in-line with what you'd be looking for?

If not, would you mind sharing what comp range you’re targeting for your next role?

**

For sales roles that use “OTE” terminology:

The comp range for the role is $xxxk - $xxxk base with OTE opportunity in the range of $xxxk-$xxxk (if targets are met). There might be some flexibility for a candidate that has more experience than the job spec.

Is that in-line with what you'd be looking for?

If not, would you mind sharing what comp range you’re targeting for your next role?

**

The comp range for the role is flexible depending on experience, but ideally, COMPANY is targeting $xxxk - $xxxk base plus equity and benefits. That said, the base comp could be stretched a bit more for a candidate that brings more experience to the table.

Is that in-line with what you'd be looking for?

If not, would you mind sharing what comp range you’re targeting for your next role?

Interview feedback and rejection

Keyboard shortcut:

INTXXX (XXX = job ID)

Snippet:

Thanks for meeting with [insert company] yesterday. I connected with them today and they really enjoyed meeting you and hearing about your background.

Unfortunately, though, I don't have the best news -- they have decided to move forward with another candidate for the next round. The other candidate has more relevant experience which is a better fit for XXXXX (describe the areas of experience).

They thought you did well in your interview and asked me to thank you for your time.

[OR]

All the best,

Tal

Resume PDF Request:

Keyboard shortcut:

RESPDF

Snippet:

Can you please send your resume in PDF format?

I highly recommend you use PDF file format for your resume - that way you can be assured it won't get mistakenly edited / reformatted when you send it to different people who have different software set-ups.

Also, many people don't use MS Word any longer (I don't use it since Google Docs is free).

Thanks!
